Dr. George Lagios PhD (c), M.Sc. CBT, was born in 1978 in Athens, Greece, where he grew up and still resides.
His first formal academic career led him to pursue a degree in Business Administration from the American College of Greece. He later continued his studies and became a certified Derivatives and Stocks Advisor. While working in this very demanding field, George began to perceive and understand the role psychology played in the investment decisions that people made.
This need to connect with a more “human” aspect of life, led him to the creation of the NGO ‘Moirazomai’ in 2013. At the time, Greece was going through a severe economic crisis. George found a way to express his creative and giving nature by helping people that were struggling in their every day lives. ‘Moirazomai’ was the first online solidarity platform, distinguished for its unique and transparent contributions to people in need.
After feeling energized at helping so many people, George decided to study more about the human mind and human behavior. He enrolled in a postgraduate program of Clinical Psychology (Mastering Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) at the Hellenic American University, which is certified by the State of New Hampshire, U.S.A. Meanwhile, he attended numerous conferences seminars and workshops related to LGBTQI, psychiatric hospitalisation, mental health mediation in the work place, trauma and violence in refugees, bullying, mindfulness and more. In 2019 and 2020, his hard work and dedication were recognised and he got distinctions on his diplomas in sexual addictions and psychosexual therapy, from UK’s Open College. His active role in the University did not stop at being just a graduate student. He has also given lectures on various topics of which he is well versed in, such as the meaning of effective altruism, the significance of sharing—Moirazomai, sexual addiction, and how to manage financial stress.
In December 2017 George used his gift for communication into writing a book he knew could make a change. Would You Choose Yourself as Your Parent? provides a unique view of how people make life-altering decisions without investing enough thought and preparation into how these decisions will truly affect their lives. He analyzed in detail what being a parent entails, and what society’s true responsibility toward children is. Through his book, George enjoys spreading knowledge and insight to people that sometimes might struggle to make conscious decisions in their lives.
George, being a ‘free spirit’, is always in search of his next step and how to broaden his horizons. He found more ways to give back by being active in various ‘think tanks’. These think tanks were formed to create strategic planning, and create ways to help those less fortunate in the community.
Dr. George Lagios has had many accomplishments in his life and has invested his time and energy into many roles; businessman, entrepreneur, author, philanthropist, life Mentor, clinical mental health counsellor. He has also received the “Achievement Award) from Hellenic American University.
Currently, besides his private practice, George is a part of the adjunct faculty of HAEC’s psychology department and on his journey to receive his PhD exploring the human phenomenon of sexual desire.
Having lived a multifaceted life, and continually discovering new roles, George has seen the benefits a skilled actively listener has when a conversation is broken down and important aspects are honed in on. His open-mindedness, honesty, and respect are some of the elements that make him so unique. Whoever you are, whatever your path may be, George can become your fellow traveler on this complicated journey—the journey of life.
